They’re slim. They’re pink. They’ve got the curves. They’re HP’s latest notebooks that are seeking to become the modern woman’s next big fashion accessory.
HP has tied up with renowned fashion designer, Vivienne Tam, to design a special line of notebooks called ‘Digital Clutch’ exclusively for women, that the company hopes will “make it the ultimate tech accessory for fashionistas around the globe”.
It’s the first time a computer company has partnered with a designer to create a notebook PC. Tam has also worked with HP to design the notebook’s accessories and packaging. The notebooks are lighter, have smoother corners and are designed with stylish imprints to suit the feminine tastes. The Digital Clutch is yet to hit stores, but HP already has a range of notebooks- Diablo-for women was launched after research conducted on feedback received from consumers.
Nearly three-quarters of women surveyed by the industry body-Consumer Electronics Association is complained about being ignored, patronised or offended by sales people when shopping for electronics.
“The Diablo is positioned at the independent, working woman who can satisfy her own needs herself,” said Shubhodip Pal, head of consumer marketing, personal systems group, HP India.
The new range of notebooks, Pal says, is HP’s attempt at marrying lifestyle and technology.
“Women don’t really care whether it’s 120GB or a 250GB hard disk. Lifestyle factors, design, energy saving quotient take a certain precedence and who is the brand associating with becomes important,” he says.
HP has tied up with tennis icon Serena Williams, who flew down to India for the launch, and model Petra Nemcova for promoting the line. For India, HP will begin a2-month-long mall activation programme which will be a start of selling these notebooks.
