NPYC intensifies AAKS activities in state

The Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress (NPYC) and the State Level Co-ordinators of ‘Aam Admi Ka Sipahi’ (AAKS) has intensified the activities of AAKS in the state with the message of people’s friendly policies and programmes of the UPA government with special reference to NREGA and RTI under the banner of ‘Aam Admi Ka Sipahi’.
As a part of the NPYC and AAKS on going campaign to reach out to every village in the state the NPYC and the state level co-ordinators of AAKS imparted training on NREGA and RTI to Youth Congress leaders of Wokha district on November 25 at LTC hall Wokha. The said training camp was attended by the president of DYC Kohima and NGOs. The resource persons of the one day district level training camp of AAKS included Kuputo Shohe president of NPYC, Dokiu Kecham SLC of AAKS and Mhonchurno Ovung General Secretary (admn) of NPYC.
Shohe, in his key note address stated ‘Aam Admi Ka Sipahi’ which means soldiers of the common people is the brain child of Rahul Gandhi, AICC general secretary in charge of youth congress, and that the idea of AAKS is to bridge the gap between the common people and the policy makers, educate, assist and fight for the rights of the common people to enable them to avail opportunities created for them by the government.
“The NPYC under the guidance of the Indian Youth Congress would continue to emphasize for proper utilization of the central government funds meant for economic upliftment of the common people”, he added.
While, dwelling on the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) Kecham said the NREGA is a revolutionary step in the direction of eradicating poverty and unemployment in the rural areas, and a scheme of central government guaranteeing 100 days of wage employment for which AAKS should carry the message at the door step of people living at the grass root level and guide them in the right direction.
“Under NREGA use of machineries and allocation of works to contractor is banned in order to maximize the benefit of the rightful job card holders and funds under the act can not be utilized for any other purpose under any circumstances” he said, and asserted that the gathering was to discuss challenges confronting the society at present and to take issues to the people in the right direction.
Speaking on Right to Information (RTI) Act, Ovung highlighted some important sections of RTI stating the Act was enacted to bridge the gap between common people and the authority by empowering citizens to access to information and enabling them to judge whether or not the government is functioning as per ‘public interest’.
After the training camp, the youth congress leaders interacted with participants and as per the reports received from them. The participants, representing different villages and areas, during interaction with the leaders highlighted that job cards are yet to be issued to the beneficiaries and that on the pretext of VIP quota some job cards have been made against NREGA meant for economic security and sustenance of the rural poor.
