Look East policy has opened ample opportunities: Dr. T Zeliang

11th annual general meeting of Dimapur District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd. (DIMUL) was held at the premises of Central Dairy, Dimapur.
Union chairman, Dr. T. Zeliang presenting the report of board of directors for the year 2007-08 highlighted that union since its inception way back in 1986-87 has been making slow but steady improvement over the years in all their activities, acting chief executive officer, Ng. Moses in a release said Friday.
Dr. T. Zeliang said although they were operating at a smaller scale presently, they have been able to build in the basic tenets of cooperatives principles at grass root level as far as the dairying activity was concerned.
He asserted that milk union was committed to assisting village dairy cooperative societies to strengthen their business and provide better services to their members.
“The effort for scientific method of dairying has greatly influenced the changing of food habits of the Nagas from being meat eaters to milk culture,” he added.
Dr. Zeliang also acknowledged “friendly policy” of the government in helping them improve their business.
“The Look East policy of the government has opened up ample opportunity to expand ourselves. We plan to implement Model Dairy Villages, which in turn, would produce sufficient high quality milk,” Dr. Zeliang remarked.
Stating that focus has been made to promote progressive farmers by linking with banks and other financial institutions, he said good quality and adequate quantity of milk was produced, adding “marketing of these should not be a problem since we are in milk deficient zone.”
