Agri-link road to benefit 7 villages

An eight kilometer Agri-link road funded by NABARD under RIDF- X and sponsored by department of Agriculture at Homeland village, under Niuland sub-division was inaugurated Friday by secretary to the government of Nagaland department of Agriculture Meilemla Pongener.
The project would benefit about seven villages in the area Sunito, Tokugha, Kiyezu A, Kiyezu B, Ghoshito, Neukhuti and homeland villages, about 2500 hectares of cultivable land in the area and about 1000 inhabitants of the area.
Describing the inhabitants of the area as fortunate people to have got such beautiful and fertile land, she encouraged the villagers to take advantages laid in front of them and make use to support the people of the state especially agriculture products. She also stated that out of 1200 villages in Nagaland, Homeland village and its surrounding villages were among the chosen village to have agri-link road constructed by the government of Nagaland under agriculture department. She also congratulated the people of the area for the hard work put in to complete the link-road.
Dr. Supong Keitzar, director agriculture department speaking at the inaugural function of the agri-link road described road as a step forward for economic development. He said “where there is road; it is easy for transportation of all types of goods and commodities as well as for people. He described the area as the land of gold, where every bit of land could be made use for production and for development.
He also called upon the villagers to make good use of the opportunity provided by the government.
Dr. Supong also called upon the people to change the mind set of seeking easy money by using unfair means and also congratulated the people of the area especially the contractor for putting hard work in completing the road.
Earlier, the foundation stone was unveiled by the chief guest Meilemla Pongener in the presence of officials and villagers from the surrounding areas. The officials also visited the two kilometer stretch road leading to the paddy field.
The main inaugural function was held at Homeland village chaired by district agriculture officer (DAO) Nguzungyi where a brief report on the agri-link road was presented by Sanjo Odyuo Sr. Engineer, agriculture department. Homeland village G.B Tohoshe proposed the vote of thanks.
On being asked the steps taken by the department to tackle famine like situation in the state, Dr. Supong Keitzar, said that various steps were being initiated to tackle such unwarranted situation in the state.
He also said that farmers in the state were provided with various scheme in terms of trainings on various seedlings and agri based training to educate the farmers.
Various government schemes are being made available for the farmers in regards to use of modern machineries, he added.
Agri officers including senior engineer Sanjo Odyuo, joint director T.V Holo and staff of DAO Dimapur attended the inaugural function.
