Chairman Chandmari Hr. Sec. School (CHSS), Neutoulie Phewuo inaugurated the Peace Channel on May 13 in Harvest Hall in CHSS.
Principal of the School Asenla Temsü delivered the welcome address, while Victor Kevilhouthie Yhome, coordinator of peace channel briefed the students about peace channel and the activities. The highlights of the programmes were group songs, presented by peace channel members of CHSS. In the inaugural address the chairman said everybody stood for Peace, but has become elusive everywhere and requested the students to be the messengers of peace.
Meanwhile in S.M.B. High School Wokha, inauguration of peace channel was held on April 27 by Youth Resource Officer (YRO) Wokha Libemo Jami who was the chief guest.
The programme was chaired by teacher in-charge, Mhao. The principal of the school, Thungbemo Patton, in his welcome addressed stressed on the need for peace at every juncture of live and encouraged the peace channel to go beyond the conventional peace strategies. The chief guest in his address also stressed on peace as the need of the hour. ‘Social life is affected in the absence of peace’ said the chief guest adding that ‘social crimes, unemployment are the areas where the youths are victimized. ‘Job opportunities are open, what you need is to specialize in a particular career’ he added. District peace coordinator Wokha, Yan Ezung, shared the origin of the peace channel and asked the participants to sow the seed of peace everywhere, everyday and to everyone.
Peace Channel inaugurated was also inaugurated at Bailey Baptist College Wokha on April 29 with lecturer Renbeni as the chairperson and project officer, DRDA Thungjamo Khuvung, as the chief guest. Principal Bailey Baptist College, Dr. Chandrika Singh, also spoke about the conceptual and the actual peace with reference to the Naga context besides his welcome address. District peace coordinator Wokha, Yan Ezung spoke on the peace theme with reference to the aims and objectives of peace channel.
Peace Channel, a new youth movement aiming to equip the youths to make them leaders and peace activist of the society is taking wings at Wokha with a rapid inauguration of peace clubs in various institutions. Inaugurating the movement on April 1 at A.G. High School Wokha, assistant pastor, A.G. Church Wokha, Lijamo Lotha, exhorted the students to be peace lovers in the midst of the worldly vices. Inaugurating the movement, Rev. Fr. T.D. George, said that ‘until we have peace in us, we cannot give it to others’ and added that ‘there will be no peace if we remain divided’.
