Kohima District Truck Driver’s Union (KDTDU) at its emergency meeting has raised serious concern over illegal and high taxation levied upon by various government departments, organizations, unions and councils along NH-39.
According to a press release issued by the union, truck carrying building materials including sand, bricks and cements were charged Rs.100 to Rs.150 by forest department as forest royalty while police personnel manning Chumukedima check gate charge Rs.40 to Rs.50 to cross the gate despite producing all documents and challans.
Concerned about the high rates of taxation being collected by Chumukedima Town Council (CTC) where a truck or lorry carrying building materials has to pay Rs.100 to Rs.200 depending on what materials the truck or the lorry was loaded, the KDTDU release also said that Medziphema Town Council (MTC) has also started collecting Rs.50 per truck or lorry coming towards Kohima from Dimapur for which it appealed Nagaland government and district administration to look into the matter at the earliest and take necessary action immediately while also appealing all right thinking citizens and public to come forward and stop the ‘high taxation’ in any form or aspects
Meanwhile, the union has welcomed the decision of All Assam Truck Owners, Drivers and Handyman’s Association for standing against all sorts of taxations within Nagaland and said it would extend its full support for the cause.
