Plea to halt Dikhu hydro power project

Seven villages under Longleng district has urged the government to immediately halt the work at proposed Dikhu hydro project in Tamlu stating that it would affect the livelihood of many poor villagers in that area.
A representation submitted to Nagaland commissioner and secretary power by sessional chairman M Kongmong and secretary BS Nganlang and endorsed by village leaders of Yongnyah, Bura Namsang, Tamlu, Wanching, Nian, Tangha and Kangching said the affecting village elders and public leaders met on June 26 and passed a resolution urging government to stop the work at proposed Dikhu hydro project in the larger interest of the people of Tamlu area.
According to signatories the meet observed that 90% of their agricultural land was likely to submerge which would render the poor villagers jobless. The village leaders also highlighted that the only road – under construction – linking Longleng district headquarter would also be submerged along with the main bridge over the Dikhu river.
