Following the demolition of illegal structures on land leased out to Dimapur Municipal Council by Development Authority of Nagaland, developmental work was carried out in the area on July 16.
A drainage pit located in the evicted area was finally cleared by Sanitation branch of the DMC. The pit which controlled all the drains in Super Market and its surrounding area remained blocked for years and could not be cleared due to obstruction caused by erected illegal structures which prevent machineries from entering the area.
DMC advisor Er. Vikholie Neinu who was present at the work site commented that the drainage problem in the entire Super Market area will be reduced to great level. He was of the idea that the main drain which was underground would be made into exposed drain so that it could be cleared from time to time.
It may be mentioned that demolition drive in the area was carried out in presence of DBs, police, administration and DAN officials, DMC led by Chief Advisor K. Keditsu and other advisors brought down about 30 unauthorized structures which were not removed despite giving them one month notice. The late date of one month’s notice was July 10.
Er. K. Keditsu informed that demolition drive passed off peacefully and demolition was necessitated as many people started living in unauthorized structures and undesirable activities started to take place.
He said that the evicted area will be soon developed for the welfare of the Dimapurians.
