Rodent campaign-cum-mela

Department of Agriculture, Kohima district organized rodent campaign cum potato farmers’ mela at Khuzama on July 29 with director of agriculture, A.Y. Ovung as chief guest.
The chief guest, A.Y. Ovung in his inaugural speech stated that today remedial measures have been adopted to protect crops from pests and diseases resulting in bumper harvest.
He also stated that the department had been providing highest inputs to Khuzama village, the highest producer of potato in the state.
He advised the farmers not to depend only on subsidies provided by the government.
He further appreciated the farmers for their effort in adoption of double cropping whereby extra form of income was generated.
Joint director of agriculture, T.V Holo, spoke on the promotion of melas and exhibitions in the block level under the new extension reforms and also emphasized on the importance of extension service of agri. and allied departments.

M. Salie (retd.) managing director of Nagaland State Co-operative Bank (NSCB) and Vizosul chairman village council, Khuzama acknowledged the agriculture department for rendering all possible assistance to the farming community.
The resource persons included N. Jacob Yanthan, SDO (Store) Dimapur and Seyeivonuo, A.O II.
Around 300 farmers from Khuzama, Kigwema and Jakhama attended the training.
After the programme, rodenticides like Roban were distributed free of cost to the farmers.
