The United Naga Council (UNC) in strongest term condemn the violent acts against the Mapao Khullen village by Manipur commandos and IRBs and valley based underground allegedly belonging to KCP (MC) on August 29 and August 31.
According to UNC fact finding team who visited the village on September 7, said the Manipur police commandos and IRBs came in about 10 vehicles and performed frisking operation.
On August 31 around 9 am some miscreants allegedly belonging to KCP (MC) came to the village and assaulted about 30 villagers causing grievous injuries including an aged church pastor on the pretext of having police informers in the village. The miscreants further warned the villagers to vacant within 5 days or face dire consequences causing the women folks and children to flee the village.
The UNC in a press release issued by publicity wing said that the tacit understanding between the police commandos, IRB and the valley based underground factions to destabilize the peaceful atmosphere in the tribal villages has become very evident.
Stating that time and again the peaceful atmosphere in the foothills is distrurbed by thoughtless armed miscreants with ulterior motives to intimidate and force the villagers to flee the villages in order to grab the tribal lands, the UNC said that such acts have the potential to trigger communal violence between communities.
