Apropos to the news item- 3 minors assaulted which appeared in local dailies, proprietor of the lounge L Sema, also owner of the dog, clarified in a press statement that the whole story and circumstances had been twisted and conjured to vindicate the matter.
Being a mother herself, she did not have the heart or the motive to torture children in any circumstances whatsoever, the statement said.
She further maintained that the children were regular visitors to the lounge and her residence to collect garbage and were given tips in cash and kind on regular basis.
Asserting that the children were queried generally after the incident of the dog being stolen came to her knowledge on Friday; she claimed that a helper had seen the dog being petted by one of the boys who had come around 4pm on that particular evening.
Countering the assault on the children and their confession, Sema claimed that one of the boy confessed of stealing the dog and putting it in a box before filling it up with garbage.
She also said the children were beaten up by the public when they tried to run away. Further, she maintained that the children confessed to the East police station that they kept the dog at their house located along Assam-Nagaland border. However on reaching the location, Sema alleged that the children changed their earlier statement and in turn took the police for a ride.
With regard to the injury on one of the boy’s toe being bitten by a dog, Sema clarified that the injury was inflicted while the boy tried to run away.
Maintaining that the intention of making the children stay in the house was not to torture or assault them but to find the truth, she said “In no way was I trying to breach the laws and assault children for any ulterior motives but to find an amicable solution and recover the pet”.
Sema also questioned the authorities concerned for “Child Rights” on why they were not worried on issues related to child labour while many child labourers are being led to commit petty crimes because of being left unattended and uncared for by organisations, despite claiming to stand for child rights.
