Chendang village council (CVC) has clarified the news item on assault of 3 of its members published in this daily on March 9. Refuting the allegation that Chendang villagers had been indulging in taking timber (fanta) belonging to Yahkur village, CVC chairman, C.B Yongkong Chang in a release said Chendang villagers was by blood, law abiding citizens, who could never go beyond their integrated boundary. The chairman also stated that Khüksung area under Chongpeang forest where the incident occurred, was very much within Chendang village integrated jurisdiction.
CVC chairman said when Yahkur village were involved in encroaching Chendang village, CVC never failed to report the matter to the district administration. He however added the authority failed to uphold their grievances, and therefore appealed the district administration to compensate the victims who were allegedly assaulted by Yahkur villagers.
