Phom Monyu celebration at Anaki village

DIMAPUR: Phom Monyu, the biggest traditional festival of Phom Naga tribe organized by Phom citizens of Anaki village was graced by the MLA & Advisor, NBDA, L.Temjen Jamir as the chief guest on April 4.
The programme was attended by a huge entourage of MLA from neighbouring villages and towns.
Chairmen of Merangkong village; Kangtsung village; Wameken village; chairmen, Tuli town committee, Tzudikong town; government officers and public leaders of Tuli area also joined the celebration.
After the invocation pronounced by Pastor S. Kanlong, welcome address was delivered by L Longduk Mukho Chairman Anaki Phom Citizens’ Council.
Short speech was also delivered by the chairman of Anaki village council and the significance of the Monyu festival elaborated by Inspector, L. Bulom Mukho.
A representation for the construction of community hall cum library and guest house was submitted on behalf of the whole village to the chief guest by B. Tushah Phom.
Some of the highlights of the celebration was presentation of ‘Leng leng khong khong’ (bamboo dance) and songs by students and presentation of folk dance by menfolk and women folk of the village.
The MLA sought support of villagers in the effort towards development of the area and also laid the foundation stone of the multi-purpose building before the start of the function.
The chief guest was received and sent off with ceremonial log drum beating by Ounang (village youth).
Meanwhile, Phom citizens of Anaki village expressed gratitude to MLA L.Temjen Jamir for gracing their celebration.
