Road construction in Shiroy village

UKHRUL, APR 18 : The ongoing village road construction from Shiroy village to Zingsui/Mapum villages, a stretch of 30 kilometers under Prime Minister Gram Samaj Yojana (PMGSY) is a boon for the village folks of the far-flung area.
The traveling distance from Ukhrul to Kamjong, a stretch of more than 60 kms road distance has been shortened partly. However, one of the most serious issues is that the Government of India needs to take up “protective measures” to tackle degradation of “Ecological imbalance” causing unprecedented loss of natural resources and rise in “global warming”. Moreover, as the villagers of Shiroy and people of Ukhrul district receive drinking water from Shiroy peak, the matter was discussed in a press meet attended by 15 village authorities including the speaker of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Rock.
Ngatankhui Wungzek one of the village headmen opined that the coming of PMGSY road connectivity would bring “destructive” development for people of Shiroy village and Tangkhul community due to cutting of trees and stone quarrying in the virgin forest of Shiroi. Achan Shang, also a village headman viewed that it would bring more destruction to natural resources. The villagers collectively decided to preserve and protect the village “Virgin forest” in the interest of Tangkhul community. However, the house also agreed that the progressive PMGSY road connectivity which is on the stage of completion could not be stopped or restricted by any one.
