Naga Students’ Federation has termed the statement made by Nagaland Senior Government Employees Welfare Association (NSGEWA) declaring to support Congress candidate Dr. SC Jamir for the forthcoming by-election as “amusing and ridiculous”. NSF expressed surprise on former government servants taking political side and declaring to support Jamir, adding such an attitude was totally unbecoming of persons who are considered responsible and senior citizens.
NSF president Mutsikhoyo Yhobu in a press release pointed out that there was no point of NSGEWA continuing to exist as the association was a “closed chapter” after the High Court and the Supreme Court found no validity in their questioning the Government of Nagaland’s decision to implement the law stipulating the length of service of government servants in Nagaland.
The decision of the Nagaland Government to fix the length of service for government servants was taken on the basis of the demand of students’ fraternity and the youth where the state government decided to create new opportunities of employment for the youth in the government sector, and not just for a few selected persons who were already in service, NSF added.
NSF also questioned the motives of NSGEWA since large amounts of money were collected from its members on the pretext of welfare activities but there was no transparent audit till today.
Further, the federation lauded present government adding it has performed much better than any previous regime especially on programmes and policies pertaining to empowerment and upliftment of the youth.
NSF also mentioned that many of the retired persons are still using government facilities and government vehicles on the one hand and on the other hand declaring political support for selected political parties which is “shameless and a poor example in the eyes of your own children”
