WAPO launches ‘Year of tree plantation’

Western Angami Public Organization (WAPO) on Thursday formally launched the observation of ‘Year of plantation day’ 2011 at WAPO Hall Sech? Zubza.
Speaking as the resource person, divisional forest officer (DFO) Kohima Temjen, IFS emphasized that due to the climate change, there were frequent occurrences of cyclone, erratic rain falls etc. 
Pointing out the state has unique bio-diversity, the DFO called upon the communities to play an important role in preserving and protecting the rich bio-diversity for posterity in the state.
He also lauded the efforts of WAPO for declaring the ‘Year of plantation’, coinciding with the United Nations declaration of Year of Forest and India hosting the World Environment day on June 5. 
The department of forest, environment, ecology   through the DFO Kohima gave 10, 000 tree saplings to WAPO to be planted in all Western Angami areas. 
The function was chaired by WAPO president Vikehielie Victor, invocation prayer by Visakuolie Rhatsu, associate pastor SZBC, welcome address by Neiyiezietuo Hesielie, finance secretary, special song by CYA Sechii Zubza and vote of thanks by Seyieneizo Mor, treasurer. 
It may be mentioned that WAPO in a seminar held on November 12, 2010 decided to observe 2011 as ‘Year of plantation’, and pledged that every member of WAPO plant one tree for a greener and healthier environment in WAPO areas.
