Attempted rape on minor in Chumukedima

An 11-year-old Naga girl was sexually assaulted by one non-local man in Chumukedima May 28 last, police disclosed today.
According to police, the accused identified as one Abdul Rehman (31), son of Abdul Muriam from Karimganj, Assam and currently residing at Chumukedima, allegedly picked up the victim from her house and took to his place after repairing electrical wirings at neighbour’s house. Then the accused sexually assaulted her and later dropped the victim at her place, police said.
The accused reportedly confessed that he sexually assaulted the victim with the intention to commit rape. He, however, denied raping the victim, police said.
Medical examination of both the victim and the accused was conducted at the civil hospital, Dimapur and the results awaited, police said, adding a case has been registered against the accused under appropriate section.
