The promotional concert cum elimination round of the NE Highway Star 2011 was held at Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong on June 2. Deputy chief minister of Meghalaya, Bindo M Lanong was the chief guest. A.L Hek MLA as well as B. Syiem, Director, Art and culture also attended the show. The chief guest in his speech lauded the organizers of NE Highway Star for organizing the show to promote fresh talents in the North East and to bring different cultures under one platform. The 25 contestants from Nagaland, Meghalaya and Assam entertained the crowd with their best numbers. Samuel from Nagaland (Kohima) with the number, ‘To hell with the devil’ and Tina from Shillong Meghalaya were the viewers choice of the promotional event. Out of 25 contestants, 9 contestants were eliminated and the remaining 16 contestants will go for 2nd round recording which will be on June 7 at IMC Hall Dimapur. The event will be telecast on NE TV. The selected contestants are Lakersha 03, Evanisha 05, Tina 07, Ribakordor 11, Shibor 15, Venessa 16, Phira 18, Eliphas 20, Bansharai 21, Johny 23 (all from Meghalaya); Geetu 08, Samuel 09, Velakho 14, Akup Phom 02, Hentick Konyak 10 (all from Nagaland); and finally Abhijeet 25, the lone contestant from Assam, Guwahati.
