The 7th edition of Northeast Art Fusion 2011 grand finale was held on Tuesday at town hall. The contest was organized by Mind Blowers Club under the banner ‘Northeast Summer Festival’ in celebration of ‘World Music Day’. The winner of 7th edition of Northeast Art Fusion 2011 grand finale was ‘Filharmonix’ from Jorhat, Assam, while the runner up was Avancer from Mokokchung. In the individual prize category, the best original composition award went to D’Notes, best vocalist award to Lemti (Switch Blade), best drummer award to Alemtemsü (Avancer), best bassist award to Sunep (Avancer) and best guitarist award to Anurag and KK (Filharmonix). Bands that performed at the contest were Switch Blade (Kohima) who sang ‘Cry For Peace’, ‘Folklore and Feel’; D’Notes (Peren) – Through Ladder and Bitch, Avancer (Mokokchung) – Crime Free And Revolution and Filharmonix (Jorhat) Assam – Love Machine, Daddy’s Girl and U’d Look Hot. Earlier, speaking on the contest as chief guest, SDO power department, Albert Ovung said northeast region is the powerhouse of music and lately people have started to recognize this hidden talent, as many musicians from the region have won accolades in the national as well as international arena. Further he said musicians from the region have the capability and potential to make it big in the world of music but lack of innovativeness, which he termed as a drawback and urged musicians not to duplicate compositions. The judges for the contest were Tanmay Ray Choudhury (Guwahati) drummer for East India Company and Voodoo Child, ex drummer for Lucid Recess, David Koch (Guwahati) music promoter, Rock a-Nolla events Café artistes’ management Fire Ball Agencies, L. Asang pongen (Nagaland), degree in vocal performance in western classic and a music teacher.
