In a severe blow to the state government claim of being a peaceful state and set back to the Naga peace process, Union Government has said that State of Nagaland was declared a “disturbed area” for a further period of one year with effect from June 30 under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958. This was decided during a meeting of the Joint Monitoring Group which was held to oversee the implementation of Agreed Ground Rules of SoO on June 23 at New Delhi, a PIB communiqué stated. During the meeting it was mutually agreed to extend the SoO agreement with NDFB (P) and DHD for a further period of six months up to December 31. Atul Kumar Mathur, IPS, as Director, North Eastern Police Academy, Shillong, informed the release. On the Census 2011 and National Population Register (NPR), the Capture of biometrics for National Population Register in the country has started in one district each in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. It is already in progress in the States of Nagaland, Delhi and Manipur and in one district each of Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Orissa, Puducherry and West Bengal. On June 2, the Cabinet approved the revised cost estimates of Rs. 6649.05 crore for the scheme of National Population Register (NPR). On Border Management, the release disclosed that under Border Area Development Programme (BADP), Annual Action Plans from 13 States- Nagaland, Assam, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal has been received. On June 29, the Socio-Economic & Caste Census (SECC) was launched from the State of Tripura. On Disaster Relief, the release said that in the month of June 2011, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams comprising 111 personnel and 22 boats were deployed for emergency response and rescue in the States of Andhra Pradesh and Assam.
