Agriculture department, Wokha organized a training on district level rodent pest management campaign on July 8 at DC conference hall, Wokha with Veprasa, district and session judge, Wokha as the chief guest. Veprasa congratulated the department for organizing the programme at the right time and suggested to the farmers to go for WTRC so as to reduce the pressure on jhum cultivation. To the department, he suggested on organizing farmers tour within the state so farmers could share and exchange information on agriculture. C. Peter Yanthan, DAO, Wokha in his welcome address, highlighted on last year’s report on rodent and the activities of the department. Deputy director, Temjensoba delivered the keynote address. He addressed the gathering about the history of rodent pest, where problem on rodent pest started way back in the year 1940s-1950s when bamboo flowering was observed abundantly. He also enlightened the gathering about the government’s policy “Food for All vision 2020” which has been extended to 2025. Short speech was delivered by Khumdemo Ezung PC i/c KVK Wokha on formation and activities of KVK. The inaugural programme ended with vote of thanks by Sacheo AO followed by technical session. C. Peter Yanthan DAO, Wokha deliberated on the life cycle and management of rodent pest in detail with power point presentation. Altogether, 135 farmers attended the training programme. Ropan was also distributed to the farmers.
