Expressing deep grievances over unreasonable demand notes allegedly served to them by so many factions, the Nagaland Medicine Dealers’ Association (NMDA) Wednesday appealed to the government of India and state government to seriously look into the grievances and take immediate necessary steps to curb those “anti-social activities.”
The NMDA, in a statement released by its president A. Ato Yepthomi said its executive members sat for an emergency meeting in connection with rampant extortion notes and life threats to members of NMDA for different kind of demand notes and taxes by various factions.
Maintaining that medicine was a life saving commodity with limited profit and limited business in the service of patients, the NMDA said it was pathetic that medicine dealers were served “exorbitant demand notes and telephonic life threats by all possible factions of so called national workers.”
According to NMDA president the threat has reached such a height that business people were now scared of even picking up phones “which are not registered in their dairies and thereby losing so many important calls also.”
NMDA said it was constrained to advocate closure of all business establishments for an indefinite period till they were assured of immediate redressal of their grievances by authorities of all factions.
It also strongly appealed to “highest authorities” of all factions to seriously review taxation, especially on medicines by their cadres and direct them to refrain from threatening/extorting/taxing the humble medicine business fraternity “who are tirelessly working for the interest of the people with limited profit and returns.”
