Political affairs committee PAC (DAN) & WC (NPF) member S. Lima on Friday paid a visit to Chakpa village and interacted with the council members and leaders to take note of their grievances.
He also inspected the community hall cum rest house which is still under process of construction as the previous one was destroyed by fire 12 years back.
Addressing the meeting, S. Lima shared about the purpose of PAC and their role on the present Naga society.
He also enlightened the gathering on how it acts as a facilitator between different Naga underground groups to stop fighting amongst themselves so Nagas could live in peace.
Stating the PAC does not strive for publicity or issue propaganda, he revealed that in the previous state election, there was no DAN candidate but promised the next state election would see a NPF Candidate as more or less all NPF allies in the DAN government like the BJP and NCP leaders have merged with the NPF.
He therefore asked the gathering to think intensely and respond whether they want to remain stagnant or join the bandwagon of progress and development.
Also speaking at the meeting, Chakpa village council chairman said S. Lima would undertake the task of completing the community hall cum rest house at the earliest as the people of the village were in dire need of the building.
Another council member also appealed to the PAC member to look into the problems of government run schools in the village stating “education is foremost and much more important than development”.
It may be mentioned that Chakpa village lies in Langpangkong range at Mokokchung district and comes under 24th Angetyongpang Constituency.
The village was completely destroyed by fire on March 11, 1999. The present, the village consists of 277 households, and since that tragic incident, according to the villagers, no major compensation or aid has been received either from the governmental or NGOs for rebuilding the village.
