State highway NH-39 stretching from Medziphema sub-division en-route to Peren district measuring about 14 kilometers has been lying in total neglect over the last many years.
Ghaspani-II west villages union president Khekiho Ayemi and general secretary Dr. Rovi Zhünyü stating this in a press release said the road which is the lifeline of 10 villages, has been lying neglected thus causing hardship and inconvenience to travelers, and also damaging the vehicles plying on the road.
The affected villages include new Socünoma, Maova, Hekheshe, Zuikhu, Khaibung, Sirhi Angami, Sirhima, Tsüüma, Molvom and Bungsang.
Highlighting these grievances, the release said the road not only interconnects 10 villages but is also the only road connecting Peren district to Kohima. Despite the presence of two important landmarks i.e. Sainik School of the state at Punglwa, Peren district and Chathe Prayer Centre, the road has not been given due attention and has created a poor impression of the state, the release stated.
Ghaspani-II west villages union lamented that despite the deplorable road condition, the public has no alternative but to travel in these “gaping craters”.
The union appealed to the authority in-charge to look into the welfare of the people in these areas and to carry out the road repair at the earliest “to save the crumbling roads”, which if not paid attention to, would go beyond repair.
