Special Investigation Team (SIT), directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Vigilance Commission after verifying the status of 5056 teachers with regard to the nature of their appointment for the period January 2002 to March 2009, submitted its final report to the state government on July 7, 2011.
It may be recalled, that the SIT was asked to verify the authenticity and legality of all appointment orders of teachers from January 2002 to March 2009, following the unearthing of a massive fraud in appointment of teachers.
According to J.I Yaden, director and DIG Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Nagaland the SIT scrutinized over 40,000 documents of the 5056 teachers and recommended both criminal and departmental action to the government, depending on the gravity of their involvement in the scam.
Further, the director & DIG (Vigilance) informed that the report did not include the status of 1084 teachers who did not report for verification to the SIT and treated as “Absent Teachers” in the preliminary report submitted in February 2010. The categories of teachers were verified by the State Verification Committee (SVC) and District Verification Committee (DVC) of the School Education department.
He said the findings of the SVC and DVC were yet to be intimated to the SIT for taking up criminal liability if any was found to be involved.
Meanwhile, drawing attention to media reports, the director Vigilance clarified that the SIT Vigilance was not involved in any manner with recent appointments of teachers under the department of school education as it was not part of the SIT’s task.
