The department of Economics & Statistic conducted in-service training course on “basic official statistic” in two batches for its employee earlier this month.
Inaugurating the training programme which started on July 12 last, secretary to the government of Nagaland Dr. L. Daniel Longchar, IAS pointed out that Nagaland was lagging behind other states in the country in the field statistic and expressed hope that the department would catch up with the rest of the country.
He also warned that strict attendance of employees and disciplinary action would be enforced and that any promotion, confirmation and regularization of employees must be in conformity with the service rule and opportunity be given to those who had attended training courses.
Meanwhile, additional director and head of department (HoD) Y. Sancheo thanked parliamentary secretary R. Tohanba for constant encouragement and taking personal interest to start the training programme. The HoD informed that the intensive training programme on various statistical methodologies would be conducted to enhance statistical skills of the employees.
Joint director I. Chuba Jamir who chaired the function, said the department had a long cherished dream to have training division to prepare statistical personnel on various statistical tools and techniques and expressed happiness on the inauguration of the training programme, adding that ‘a new chapter has been set straight’. He also informed that the training programme will be a continuous programme to assess the human resource capacity of the department.
The first and second batches of the training was conducted from July 12-16 and July 18-22 respectively where wide range of methodology pertaining to statistical activities were taught such as estimation of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), Consumer Price Index (CPI), National Sample Survey (NSS), Index of Industrial Product (IIP), Handbook, Economic Review, Births & Deaths and Village Level Development Indicators.
During the assessment, it was evaluated that the intensive training programme on specific topic should be conducted and also employees should be sent to National Academy of Statistics Administration (NASA), Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), a delayed departmental released issued here Friday stated.
