The veteran singer insisted the show must go on following his asthma scare on stage and sucked on his inhaler while he completed his set.
It seemed heavyweight rocker Meat Loaf would definitely be gone, gone, gone after he fainted on stage Friday night.
Thousands of terrified fans saw the 63-year-old Bat Out of Hell singer collapse in the middle of his no 1 hit I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That), with many at the fearing he had suffered a heart attack.
But the veteran singer clearly believed Heaven Can Wait, as he dusted himself off and finished the show despite lying unconscious on the floor for ten minutes surrounded by aides.
He made light of the incident before performing classic tune Paradise by the Dashboard Light, saying: ‘“I f—-ing fainted. I have asthma, I can’t breathe, and then’.
‘Oh wait, I forgot. I got poked by a pin and bled half to death, and then I got slapped in the face and my tooth is loose.’
He then went on to finish his marathon concert at the Pittsburgh Trib Amphitheatre in Pennsylvania, which also featured hits such as Dead Ringer For Love and Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad.
One fan tweeted: ‘Kept suckin’ on his inhaler & singing his ass off.’
His publicist Maureen O’Connor said: ‘He hadn’t been feeling well the past few days as his asthma had been bothering him’.
‘He fainted onstage and got back up and did the rest of the show. We’re happy he’s ok.’
Meat Loaf was later forced to cancel an appearance at a Cincinnati Reds stadium tonight so he could recover from his ordeal.
The former Celebrity Apprentice contestant had been due to throw the first pitch at to honour a local woman suffering with a rare form of blood cancer.
The rocker was invited by a friend of 51-year-old Jennifer Linnabary, who’s battling mantle cell lymphoma, and listens to his music to help her deal with her struggles.
It is not the first time the star has collapsed on stage. In 2003 he fainted on stage in Wembley, London.
He was immediately rushed to hospital for emergency surgery to correct the potentially fatal Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, a condition which causes an irregular heart beat.
He has also cheated death after being in a car which crashed and rolled over, being been hit on the head with a shot during an athletics event at high school, and his private jet had to make an emergency landing at London’s Stansted Airport in 2006 after its landing gear failed.
Meat Loaf shot to worldwide fame in 1977, when his Bat Out Of Hell album became an international phenomenon.
It went on to sell 43 million copies, and still sell 200,000 units every year.
He continued to sell well as a chart star with hit albums such as best-seller Bat Out Of Hell II: Back Into Hell and Dead Ringer.
Meat Loaf has also had a moderately successful acting career, appearing in the likes of The Rocky Horror Picture show, Black Dog and Spiceworld: The Movie.
