Post Graduate Ao Kaketshir Telongjem (PGAKT), Lumami Campus celebrated ‘Tsungremmong’ festival, one of the premier festivals of the Ao tribe under the theme, “Ao student’s introspection on cultural understanding” at the old administrative Block compound N.U.
The occasion was graced by Temsuwati, additional development commissioner, Planning & co-ordination department, Kohima and Bendangnukshi Longkumer as the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Temsuwati said during the forefather’s time, Tsungremmong was observed and celebrated in order to invoke God’s blessings for a bountiful harvest and to protect their crops from natural calamities.
Similarly, he said students in the present world, just like the forefathers who toiled in their fields, must give their best to excel in their studies.
He also challenged the students to set an example as an individual to be an agent of change as the society would grow for the better only when a person changes and contributes to the society.
He also advised the students to follow their dreams saying that everything depends on will power, determination, dedication and personal interest in a particular work.
Participants from Fazl Ali College students Union (FACSU) presented a traditional dance and village council members from Ungma, Longsa, Chichiyimpang and Settsu village also attended the program.
Limameren, president of Post Graduate Students Union, Lumami (PGSU) delivered the vote of thanks.
The program was followed by a grand ‘Tsungremmong’ feast at the venue.
Mangmetong village: Mangmetong Yimlang Tsungremmong festival was held at Imrong Salang at Mangmetong village on August 1 with parliamentary secretary for geology & mining, irrigation & flood control, border affairs Y. Patton as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Patton expressed happiness for being invited to celebrate Tsungremmong festival in the native village of Home Minister, Imkong L. Imchen and thanked the villagers for their warm welcome. Parliamentary Secretary also assured to take up proposal in the farming sector put up by the villagers and he would send his officers for inspection.
He also urged the villagers to cooperate with DAN government led by chief minister, Neiphiu Rio for all round development of the village. He requested the villagers to forget and forgive one another of the past issues on the auspicious day. The Parliamentary Secretary also donated `1 lakh towards Mangmetong Yimlang.
Earlier the significance of ‘Tsungremmong’ festival was given by Imtiluin ex-GB. He said that the Tsungremmong festival is held for 3 days, keeping one self-sanctified for the harvest. He also explained the rituals carried out on this day asking the Almighty for rich harvest and traditional games were also displayed during this festival.
The programme was chaired by Allen Imchen while invocation was pronounced by Chuchang Hoem Evangelist and welcome by Imlimeren Chairman Village Council Mangmetong. ‘Tsungremmong’ song was presented by Kosasanger and Naklu ken and tribute song by Rionglar, vote of thanks was delivered by Longri Mungdang chairman. The programme was followed by cultural dances and traditional indigenous games competition played between 6 sectors of Mangmetong Yimlang. The judges for the competition were L.B. Namo, S. Lanu Imchen and M. Meren Jamir.
Chumukedima: Ao community of Chumukedima celebrated ‘Tsüngremong’ on Tuesday, August 2 . The festival was hosted by Chumukedima Ao Students’ Union on the theme: ‘Kaket Shisatsü Aser Sobaliba nung Lirumedem’ (Education and cultural harmony) and was held at Nagaland Police Central School campus, Nagaland Armed Police Training Centre (NAPTC). Commandant, NAPTC Imlisunep, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering Limasunep urged youths, the students in particular, to stike a healthy balance between modernity and one’s root. Editor of Ao vernacular daily Tir Yimyim, K. Temjen spoke on the theme of the celebration.
