Parliamentary Secretary for IPR and economics & statistics, R. Tohanba graced the ‘Medumnio’ festival as chief guest at Shamator on August 8.
Addressing a huge gathering Tohanba called upon the people to maintain peace and harmony and said that festival brings people to bring together by fostering new ideas, thoughts etc. and in the process bring peace and harmony among brothers, friends, clans, tribe and villages etc.
“Let us have the spirit of harmony and also let us maintain the spirit of forgive and forget in order to ensure unity among our community”, he appealed to the people.
He said, people talk about peace or to forge better relation among brothers, union, Hohos, tribes and community etc but, unless and until the spirit of forgiveness prevails, peace and unity cannot be achieved.
He reiterated that DAN government under the slogan ‘Peace for Development and Development for Peace’ under the leadership of chief minister, Neiphiu Rio had brought development to the people and people are starting to enjoy the benefit and facility provided by the government in all sectors.
Tohanba was accompanied by Deputy Director IPR Chubalepzuk, EAC Shamator, DPRO Tuesnang and DIS Shamator. Public leaders, people both young and old from neighbouring villages including Shamator, Wapher, Lasokiur, Langkonger, Müleangkiur, Tsasher, Sangphur and Yakor participated in the festival, which was followed by Medumnio feast.
Yimchungers celebrate Medumnio festival during the 1st week of August every year. The festival has many different valuable meanings like ‘Me’ – means soul, ‘Dem’ – wrapped, ‘Neo’ – means feast.
Tuensang: Parliamentary Secretary CAWD, Torechu on Monday asserted “culture is a mark of reconciliation unity, peace” amongst sections of all civil society.
Speaking as the chief guest at the Metumnio festival at public ground Pungro Town, Torechu, urged the Yimchungrus to preserve their rich culture and traditional values.
While appealing the people to respect the rich culture, Torechu also called upon the people to celebrate the festival in a significant way, adding “Without peaceful environment, there can be no development”.
He also asked the people to join hands and strive with commitment, sincerity and dedication in order to bring development in the area.
Others who spoke at the celebration were Thesong, president, Yimchungru Tribal Council, Zhetovi, president, Sumi Hoho, Mukam Advocate, Musumong, head GB Pungro Town. Other highlights of the celebration were Metumnio indigenous games, top spinning, cultural dances etc.
Sotokur EAC: Along with the rest of Yimchunger people, Sotokur EAC Hq. also celebrated Medumnio festival on August 8 at public ground, Sotokur village with Yankiuba Head GB Sotokur village as the chief guest.
The chief guest in his address highlighted the significance of Medumnio festival and called upon the public not to misuse the cultural values of their forefathers. In the programme, competition on cultural and sports items were also held. Short speeches were also delivered by Head GBs of Longtuker village, Y. Auunru village, Kelongru village and Kuthur village.
