Meghalaya, chief secretary, W.M.S.Pariat Wednesday revealed that a total of 2,700 square kilometre area was lying under disputed area with Assam. “We presented our documents and maps to the Assam government to support our claims on a total land of 2,700 square kilometre in 12 sectors including Langpih,” Pariat told journalists.
The documentary evidence are based on legal and constitutional back up were submitted to Assam Chief Secretary Naba Kumar Das during the chief secretary-level meeting held Tuesday at Dispur in Assam.
Pariat said the meeting decided that both governments will study the details of 12 areas of differences in the Assam- Meghalaya border before taking final solution to vexed border dispute. The 12 areas of differences include Ratacherra, Khanduli-Psiar, Khanapara-Pillingkata, Deshdemoreah, Nongwah-Mawtamur, Boklapara, Borduar, Langpih, Hahim, Gizang Reserve Forest and Upper Tarabari.
About 1,500 sq km dispute area falls under Block-I and Block-II alone. Last year, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his Meghalaya counterpart Mukul Sangma constituted a Chief Secretary-level committee to prepare the modalities for the talks in order to find amicable solution to the long-pending boundary dispute.
