NSCN top leaders Isak Chisi Swu and Thuingaleng Muivah will arrive at Dimapur on Saturday to grace the ‘Naga independence day,’ the function which will be low key affairs and mostly confined inside a Church at Camp Hebron.
NSCN MIP secretary Joy said, “The Naga independence day will be a closed door function with the presence of NSCN top leaders Isak Chishi Swu and Thuingaleng Muivah.”
For the first time since the Indo-Naga ceasefire in 1997, the ‘Naga independence day’ will be a low profile celebration and confined strictly for the NSCN cadres. “The first session including the flag hoisting and a parade session by Naga Army will be held on the ground, while the remaining session will be inside the Church,” he added.
On their arrival at Dimapur airport at about 12.30pm, the Naga rebel leaders will head for Camp Hebron and have a briefing session with home-based NSCN leaders.
While the August 14 celebration at Camp to remain low key affairs, the arrival of collective leadership would not be different. “The collective leaders will arrive from Delhi, but we have not reserved any public reception,” an MIP source informed.
This year’s celebration at Camp Hebron will also not feature any invitees from various Naga organizations. However, Swu and Muivah are most likely to have mass consultative meeting before their departure.
The arrival of Swu and Muivah after a significant parley with Delhi last month has evoked varying speculations among the ranks and file of NSCN. “The August 14 will be significant for the Nagas as the collective leadership is most likely to make some historical announcement on the progress of the Indo-Naga peace talk,” said a source from NSCN steering committee.
The MIP, however, differs on the matter of the collective leadership making any possible announcement. “It is too early to expect anything this time from the collective leadership. We cannot assure that they would make any historical announcement,” it added.
