Various Naga political groups – NSCN/GPRN (I-M), GPRN/NSCN, NNC, FGN, including Naga students’ Federation (NSF), Sunday celebrated the “64th Naga Independence Day” at their respective camps and places.
Nagas appreciate Dr.Singh: Swu
NSCN/GPRN (I-M) “yaruiwo” Isak Chishi Swu, in his message on the “65th Naga Independence Day” celebration, at CHQ, Hebron, said Naga people highly appreciate Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for assuring to go “extra-mile” and seek “solution outside the box.”
“We consider his statement as a profound and genuine commitment towards settlement,” Swu said.
He said during the 14 years long negotiations “we have faced many hurdles but through deep commitment and patience of both the parties we have come thus far.”
Swu said both sides have come to understand each other’s position and difficulties in a more realistic way by narrowing down many of “our differences” considering the “contemporary realities and a future vision consistent with the imperatives of the 21st century”, which he advocated must be appreciated by one and all.
Maintaining that for the Nagas, land, people, political principles and historical rights were inalienable, the NSCN “yaruiwo” said therefore Naga peoples’ aspiration to live together as one people under one political roof was their inherent right.
“We therefore assure our people that we will not enter into any agreement at the expense of our rights,” Swu affirmed.
Time to take right decision: Muivah
NSCN/GPRN (I-M) “ato kilonser” Th. Muivah, who also spoke on the occasion, presented the significance of Naga history and the rights of the Nagas in a manner that reflected the reality of Indo-Naga political talks and the urgency for its members to realize the necessity to make the right decision, a press release issued by MIP stated.
“NSCN must take the right decision and now is the time,” Muivah said but with the tone of exasperation given the fact that NSCN’s sins may block the way for the earliest solution, MIP stated.
According to MIP, Muivah made a fervent plea to the members to know the truth that “God is the master of everything and He is the master of Nagalim.”
“Therefore, the need to work in close coordination with God’s will,” it stated.
Nagas won’t abandon political right: Khole, Kitovi
GPRN/NSCN collective leadership, president “Gen.(Retd)” Khole Konyak and “ato kilonser” N. Kitovi Zhimomi, said despite government of India’s attempt to erase Naga history by employing overwhelming military might and “people’s disengagement policy through various agencies, we survived and continue to commit ourselves to the cause of the Nation.”
The GPRN/NSCN collective leadership, on the occasion of “64th Naga Independence Day”, thanked Almighty God for the great Naga leaders of the past who laid the foundation stone for the Naga nation.
“The sacrifice of thousands of Naga men and women over the decades is cherished by every Naga today,” they stated in a message, which was released to the media by MIP.
The GPRN/NSCN made its stand clear that irrespective of how weak or strong; how tiny or big a nation may be, historical facts cannot be compromised.
“We must pursue our political future as it is a bounden duty of every Naga citizen,” Khole and Kitovi said, and pointed out that those standing till today were “demanded by the nation” to continue the struggle until a political solution acceptable to the Naga people was arrived at.
Stating that they would not “trade Nagaland for any price on earth,” the GPRN/NSCN reminded the government of India that Nagas would never abandon their political right after sixty four years of struggle.
“Piece-meal solution to a section of Nagas will be an insult to the aspiration of the Naga people,” the GPRN/NSCN leadership said, adding it was for all to understand that “arms have been kept aside” in search for a better option.
NNC, FGN, NSF celebrate ‘64th Independence Day’
Naga National Council (NNC) on Sunday celebrated the “64th Independence Day” at Phesama village. The Naga national flag was unfurled “gen (retd)” Thinosielie Keyho. The message of NNC working president “gen (retd)” I. Panger Walling, was read out by NNC vice president Keviche Kintso.
It stated that Naga “national workers” have become the victims of “our own internal squabbles” which has made the struggle for permanent peace and freedom a protracted and deeply painful process.
“And in reality our political future has become very bleak and dark because of our own blunders, killing, divisions, hatred, stubbornness, and lack of forgiveness. We ourselves are entirely to blame for this”, he added.
He also said that NNC welcomed and supported the stand taken by the Baptist World Alliance of 120 countries for Naga reconciliation.
However, he stressed that FNR, which is working for inclusiveness, must bring all the groups together to achieve “Naga national unity.”
“No one should be left out of this crucial process,” he said.

NSF celebrate: Naga Students Federation (NSF) Sunday celebrated the “64th Naga Independence Day” at Kisama, Naga Heritage village, Kohima.
NSF president Kelhouneizo Yhome unfurled the Naga national flag. Addressing the gathering, the NSF president said it was a great honour and privilege to observe the day.
He also paid tribute and saluted the pioneers who had led the Naga national movement and acknowledged their vision for the Nagas as one nation.
In his message, ex- president NSF Vipopal Kintso paid tribute and saluted the Naga people who had make this day a “special day for the Nagas”.
He also paid his tribute to former NSF leaders and pioneer of the federation. Earlier, the function was chaired by Krelo, secretary Social and cultural, invocation prayer by R. Jollyson, Speaker NSF, a special song was presented by Ashuni Lirüna, two minutes solidarity prayer was observed and the words of appreciation was given by Sinhilo Thong, Vice president NSF, where he thanked all the well-wishers for their contribution towards the success of the program.
FGN celebrates 65th Naga I-day at Eastern Oking
Correspondent TUENSANG: The FGN celebrated “65th Naga Independence Day” here at eastern Oking Nagaland on Sunday. The Naga national flag was unfurled by FGN “education kilonser” L.K. Pishen, while the chief guest also read out “Kedhage” message.
Short speeches were delivered by Kevi Sangtam Tatar, Litsaba Tatar, followed by awarding of commendation to Naga Army by Brig. Hanchu, GOC Eastern Command Naga Army.
H. Among, Midan Peyu Yimchungru region proposed the vote of thanks, while the programme concluded with a mass prayer.
The other highlights of the programme include demonstration of taekwondo from Yimchungru region and volleyball exhibition match between Naga Army and civil authorities.
Meanwhile, the NNC/FGN has extended its acknowledgement to various NGOs under Khiamniungan region for their active participation and cooperation towards the government.
