The Yimchungrü Students’ Union Tuensang Town (YSUTT) and Yimchunger Students’ Union Kohima (YSUK) have extended its support to the demand of the Yimchungrü Tribal Council (YTC) and the Yimchungrü Akherü Arih-Ako (YAA) holding a mass procession and the submission of memorandum to the government on August 12 at Tuensang.
According to a joint press release issued by vice president Ritsung and chairman Kiuchem, the peaceful procession and the submission of memo was an initiation to bringing peaceful co-existence within the entire Yimchungrü jurisdiction and therefore requested the government to examine the case with “seriousness and respond promptly before this elongated experienced impasse pass the threshold of peace”.
The joint press statement also highlighted that the current situation otherwise could have been long done away, had the government taken heed to study the history of its evolution in a “more far sighted and realistic point of view” instead of being “amalgamated to the contemporary historical make-up”.
The union further brought to light that there had been many occasions where the “so called Tikhir” had boycotted and disturbed the Yimchungrü Students’ Conference, Yimchungrü Women Organization and Yimchungrü Christian Youth Endeavor (YCYE) Convention programme by blockading Highways mainly from Anühtangrü village and “kidnapping, torturing and killing innocent public” who were going to attend the function.
“Some of these are the YAA erstwhile Yimchungrü Students’ Conference at Moya Village where many of the students were tortured while returning on their way back from the conference, disturbing the YWO convention at Pungro Village, disturbing the CYE convention of Zanger village etc”, added the release.
The release also said the statement by Tikhir students’ union Kiphire mentioning that their population was up to 50,000 was “naïve” and “exaggerative”.
“Nagas, irrespective of whether educated or not, become much inclined to any mere statement published in the local dailies in many instances”, stated the release.
While stating the YSUTT would remain steadfast in any course taken by the YTC and the YAA as any further step for peaceful co-existence of the Yimchungrüs, the signatories appealed to the Nagas not to be “misconstrued” by any such publication but “know deeper into the genesis before voicing concern for the same”.
YSUK supports ultimatum: Yimchunger Students’ Union Kohima (YSUK) has extended support to YTC and YAA’s ultimatum to the government to arrest two “self-styled TTC leaders” and to ban the organisation as published in this daily on August 12. YSUK in a press release received though email appealed to government to take up the matter and appealed the organizations, individuals not to publish any articles with fake statements.
