Over 1.25 lakh medical representatives across India would go on a one-day strike August 17 to press their 15-point demand. According to CRU (NER) Dimapur district secretary Prachetaranjan Mazumder the medical representatives are demanding that all appointments be given as per the provision of the Sales and Promotion Employees (Condition of Service) Act and prosecution of those employers violating the law
He said drug companies were going ahead with their own agenda of circumventing all provisions of law in respect of the sales promotion employees and converting their jobs from permanent to contract and casual labour with some “fanciful names.”
Mazumder said drug companies were all out to suppress the SPE Act while field workers are all out to restore it. “15-point demands for August 17 strike mainly revolve around this,” he said.
