Education is a must for villages to progress, develop and to grow in the society said District Education Officer (DEO) Dimapur Asono Ndang at the inauguration function of GMS Thilixü upgradation cum school building extension on Friday at Thilixü Village, Dimapur.
“Education is the factor of the institution where we can make a progress” said Ndang. To improve the living standard, lifestyle parents need to give proper education to children because without proper education, children would not be resourceful person tomorrow, added Ndang.
Describing children as the greatest resource and most important investment of parents, she however lamented that parents run from pillar to post to provide for the family, but tend to neglect their children.
Ndang also encouraged the parents to give their best to their children as the world has become competitive and added that unless proper education was given to a child, he/she would never find a place in the society.
Self reliance and self sufficiency were the most important virtues of Naga forefathers, she said but pointed out that this virtue was lacking in the present Naga society.
Ndang also said the forefathers used to take pride in shouldering their responsibilities and were honest, hardworking and loving, because of which, Nagas in the past were honoured and held in high esteem but added that “these things” are diminishing fast.
Encouraging the community to work together for the progress of the school, Ndang said RTE Act passed on 2009 would be implemented in full swing by 2012 at the state and said VECs of every village should make sure that the Act was implemented.
Under RTE, she said every child from the age of 6-14, should be compulsorily enrolled in school and not only admitted but retained in the school till they finish their course, and requested the VECs to check the attendance of children in schools and that the teachers implement their work.
Ndang also urged the community to make sure that funds provided by the government and SSA are being utilized judiciously for the right purpose and also informed the community that the government would continue to provide funds provided the VEC and teacher in-charge produce “Utilization certificate”. Failing which the government would block further funds, she asserted.
While expressing gratitude to the VEC and council members for mobilizing fund for extension of the building Ndang said that the school building is the “reflection of community work”, adding even though the government was providing fund on its part, the contribution made by the community was worth mentioning.
However, in the meantime, she asked the community not to be satisfied with the upgradation but to aim higher saying the school has the potential for expansion.
Ndang also assured the community that their proposal for establishing six GPS in the six blocks of the village would be forwarded to the mission director and requested the village leaders to pursue the matter so that “things come into full form”.
Also speaking at the function, DIS Dimapur Y. Khetoshe Yepthomi, encouraged the villagers to make use of the funds provided by the government saying community participation has become important for the betterment of the children and school.
While encouraging parents to send their children to government schools, Yepthomi said unlike the past, teachers at government schools were well qualified, and that the government was enforcing compulsory education to all children and also providing basic necessities.
Yepthomi urged teachers to perform their duty well and asked them not to only think of their reward without performing their work.
He also said teachers should be well prepared before teaching by asserting that teachers without preparation should stay at home, and underscored that education can be achieved through combined contribution from parents, teachers and students.
Earlier, a representation was read out by president Thilixü students’ Union requesting for establishing six GPS schools at the village six blocks saying that the only government school cannot meet the needs the village comprising of 1748 household and 10, 000 population.
It must be mentioned that inauguration programme was attended by 16 SIS from the office of DEO and DIS Dimapur, students, villagers and well wishers.
