In a move to clear up the mess in the School Education department with regard to teachers’ appointment, DAN legislators after a marathon meeting held here on Tuesday directed the School Education department to finalize all necessary process by November.

The department has been directed to finalize all the necessary process of termination of bogus teachers, to conduct screening test for ad-hoc teachers, to advertise all vacant posts of teachers under SSA and to conduct interview for appointment by November 30.
Disclosing this to Nagaland Post, a DAN legislator who was at the meeting said the decision to this effect was taken after DAN legislators along with the school education department held a meeting at the state banquet hall, Kohima on Tuesday.

He also disclosed that the department has been directed to compile all the vacant posts of teachers created under SSA and advertise the same and conduct interview at the district level. In the case of ‘bogus teachers’ whose services were terminated but documents found genuine, will also be eligible to appear for the interview.

It maybe mentioned that as per the earlier cabinet decision, any vacant post in any village; priority for appointment will be given to the qualified local candidate from that particular village. But, in case if there is no qualified local candidate, priority will be given to candidates from the immediate neighbouring village but if there are no such candidates available, appointment will be given to those candidates from that particular district only and not from other districts.
On the other hand, for the posts of Mathematics and Science teachers, if there are no qualified local candidates available, the department should be informed and appointment will be done through open interview.

Chief minister Neiphiu Rio will directly monitor the entire process and progress of the implementation of the directive, the legislator said.
It was also revealed that the meeting found that all necessary cabinet decision and directives to the department are already in place but the department had not fully implemented the same for which the prevailing problem had cropped up. Had all these decision and directives been implemented by the department, all the existing problems would not have been there, the legislator added.
