The students of School of Engineering and Technology and Management (SETAM) have been agitating for almost three weeks without any action being taken by university authority to respond to their demands.
SETAM Engineering Students’ Council (SESC) president, Menyawongto and general secretary, Jungshimanen Tzudir lamented that the negligence of the university regarding the demands clearly showed their nature and way of serving the purpose of the students. The council asserted that the university was aware of their sufferings but was “acting as if everything is alright”.
The council expressed that if the university could not provide facilities to SETAM, admission for new students should be stopped as there as was no future in SETAM and queried as to whether the university was responsible for SETAM. As per the decision made by the students in a general meeting held on August 25, the students had set August 28 as the deadline to fulfil their demands. Failing which, the students said the university will held responsible for any outwards incidents and would be forced stage a protest at the university headquarter and shut down the administration section as there would be no option left for the students, added the student council.
PGSU (SETAM) supports
PGSU (SETAM) has extended their support to the agitation called by SETAM engineering students’ council (SESC) demanding immediate appointment of permanent administrative in-charge.
PGSU (SETAM) has requested the authority in charge to collectively solve the problems at the earliest, adding the latter must take the engineering student’s council’s demand seriously.
Further, the union stated that SETAM as whole was facing problems due to absence of Dean or administrative in-charge to take decisions and appealed the authority in-charge to appoint an administrative in charge immediately.
