The Catholic Association of Nagaland (CAN) held its general meeting of all gazetted officers, politicians, entrepreneurs, tribal Catholic union leaders, laity leaders and NGOs on August 27 at Don Bosco School Auditorium, Kohima.
The meeting with the theme ‘Sharing Concerns’ discussed on various agenda on welfare and on policies for the Catholic community of Nagaland.
The meeting was chaired by CAN president, Nosazol Charles, who also gave the keynote address, invocation prayer by R. Rocus Chasie, the 1st CAN president and a special song was presented by Victor Yhome and friends. Elias T. Lotha moderated over the discussions on ‘Sharing Concerns’ while Rosemary Dzüvichü moderated over the session ‘Where do we go from here’. John Tsulise, ADC Aboi, P. Lucas Meyase, joint director directorate of School Education and Thomas Kent, joint director tourism moderated the sessions.
An official bulletin stated that the Catholic Association of Nagaland was formed on May 15,1983 and has its tribal unions as its constituent units which in turn have their regional unions and further to the village Catholic unions.
CAN got affiliated to the All India Catholic Union (AICU) on February 26 this year and by which the president and secretary general of CAN are now members of the Working Committee of AICU. Hence, CAN is now officially an organisation that represents the Catholic Community in Nagaland.
