In a tragic picnic, a student of Class XII (science) student of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Dimapur drowned in the river near Zoological Park, Rangapahar here at Saturday morning while on a picnic with friends. According to sources, around 27 students went for a picnic near Zoological Park, Rangapahar.
The deceased was identified as Talisunep, of Jami village. Out of the group, the victim along with two other friends went for a swim in the river located near the picnic spot, sources said. While swimming one of them was carried away by the river current but managed to escape but the other drowned. The body could not be retrieved at the time of filing this report though parents and villagers near Zoological Park were still searching for the body.
Meanwhile, when contacted, school authorities said they had not “authorized nor organized any school picnic” for HSSLC students. The school authorities maintained that on hearing rumors that some of the HSSLC students were planning to organize a picnic on August 26, they decided to send SMSs to parents and guardians informing “the school will not take responsibility for any unauthorized picnic organized in the name of the school”.
