Owing to its location, Niu Colony, Dimapur situated near railway track and also bordering Assam has been used as transit route by smugglers to smuggle liquor and other banned items such as ghutkas including drugs into Dimapur.
The colony council has been keeping vigil to prevent illegal goods from being smuggled into Dimapur through the colony. In the course of action, colony council members on Friday seized bottles of liquor and packets of ghutkas smuggled from Lahorijan in Assam.
The confiscated items were burnt by the council on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Niu Colony Council has cautioned that stern action would be taken against anyone caught smuggling banned and illegal goods into Dimapur though the colony.
