Democratic Alliance of Nagaland’s political affairs committee (PAC) has welcomed the meeting of top underground leaders which resulted in the signing of “Naga Concordant”. In a joint statement issued Monday, the PAC chairman Dr.T.M. Lotha and member secretary Z.Lohe said the committee observed signing of the concordant was a “historic and significant step” taken by underground leaders towards oneness and unity of Naga society, adding it appreciated the significant steps taken by the signatories in the greater interest of Naga society.
According to Lotha and Lohe, the PAC had a meeting August 29 at the residential office of the chief minister and the house unanimously adopted several resolutions.
The committee also appreciated the efforts of the FNR and called upon all sections of the people including both the “undergrounds and overground leaders” to also come forward and participate in the process of reconciliation, unity and oneness of Naga society so reconciliation and unity process becomes all inclusive.
DAN’s PAC felt that there was a need to convene “joint parliamentary forum on Naga political issue” so that collectively the sixty members of the house, including the opposition and ruling benches, could jointly take part in facilitating the ongoing unity and reconciliation process. PAC reiterated the stand of the DAN that state government would pave way for any alternative arrangement that could emerge through an “honourable solution of the Naga political issue.”
The committee welcomed the decision of the state government on ENPO’s memorandum to the Centre demanding a separate state wherein the state government had recommended its “no-objection” to formation of an autonomous council of the ENPO areas.
Meanwhile, welcoming the resolution of the Lokpal Bill adopted by the Lok Sabha on August 27, the PAC extended its appreciation to Anna Hazare and his team for their efforts, and further congratulated them for their success.
The PAC stated that it extended support to any initiative that was aimed at electoral reforms.
“The DAN PAC is committed to the cause of fighting corruption and bringing about transparency in governance,” the PAC underlined.
GPRN/NSCN lauds FNR
The GPRN/NSCN has extended its appreciation to the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), led by its convener Rev. Dr. Wati Aier for facilitating the recent historic meetings among the Naga political groups held August 22-26. A press release issued here Monday by the MIP GPRN/NSCN acknowledged the commitment of the FNR and expressed confidence that the extensive meeting of the leaders of Naga political groups, resulting in the signing of ‘Naga Concordant’ would be a “future-defining moral victory” for the Naga people.
The release stated that ever since its inception, the FNR has maneuvered difficulties of “political inclinations” which, the MIP maintained, had become the “Achilles Heel” for many Naga frontal organizations in the past.
GPRN/NSCN expressed hope that the signing of ‘Naga Concordant’ by six Naga leaders would help the Indian government understand that Naga political issue was neither a “petty Naga problem” arising out of economic imbalance nor a movement shouldered by remnant Naga nationalists. It stated that the aspiration of millions of Nagas was manifested by the Naga political leaders through the concordant on the strength of “Naga history and inalienable political right”.
Observing that the forthcoming months would be challenging for FNR, Naga political leaders and the Nagas in general, the GPRN/NSCN asserted it was time to prove to the world that Nagas could rise above their differences and chart a “shared future”.
Meanwhile, the MIP acknowledged the prayer support of Baptist World Alliance, the Quakers, Shisha Hoho, prayer houses and churches of all denominations in Nagaland and elsewhere for their prayers. It also extended appreciation towards Oriental Theological College; hospitality of Niathu Resort; Nagaland police escort party, officials, security officers and men at the venue; and the district administration for the efficiency displayed during the highest level meet. GPRN/NSCN also appreciated the print and electronic media for reflecting the pulse of the Naga people to the world.
