Bridge of Hope (BoH)- A child care project of Believers Church on a theme ‘ Bringing hope to children in need’ was inaugurated by, Advisor Arts & culture, New & Renewable Energy MLA Deo Nukhu at High School Colony, Kohima on Wednesday.
Nukhu while confessing that he was impressed to see the objective of BoH ‘To replace a child’s shame with dignity’, also stressed on the spirit of “giving”.
He said Christian faith was incomplete without giving and explained many different forms of giving to others like service, time and whatever one has.
He said “highest value of life is love and care” and termed Bridge of Hope project as a unique way to reach out the needy children.
As a believer and Christian, he said one preaches the gospel from the Bible but tend to miss out on certain things such as showing compassion to others.
Bishop, Believers Church Nagaland Diocese Rt. Rev. B. Sundar Raj in his brief speech about BoH, said thousands of children in the country are left without hope, hunting for food because of their social status.
“Thousands of children turn to child prostitution and are sexually abused at a tender age in India,” he added.
Rev. Sundar shared that 25 thousand people die in the world due to hunger where a majority of them are from India.
He said that for these reasons, Bridge of Hope was started to help the underprivileged children to attend schools by giving them books, uniform and basic necessities.
It may be mentioned that there are 525 centres across India and ten thousands students in North East India and 11 centres with 1002 students in Nagaland.
At present, 102 students are enrolled in BoH of Kohima from different schools selected on the condition of their family.
Students are provided with text books, note book, uniform etc., and tuition.
The programme was led by Rev. Fr. Kasthang Kath, opening prayer proposed by Khetoshe Chishi Principal Christ for the Nation Bible College, special song by Believer Church, short speech by Walo G. Rengma BJP executive member and ex- chairman MARCOFED Ltd. government of Nagaland undertaking, and vote of thanks pronounced by Rev. Fr. Hisenlo Kath BCI diocesan secretary Dimapur.
