Department of School Education in coordination with Children with Special Needs (CWSN) program under SSA organized an orientation, awareness and training of educational administrators for implementation of Inclusive Education for Disabled at Secondary Stage (IEDSS) scheme on September 1 and 2 at UBRC Kuda, Nagarjan Dimapur.
The program was conducted as part of state wide exercise by the department of school education to identify and assess neglected section of students.
Highlighting about IEDSS scheme, deputy director school education Kohima Dr. Chuba said IEDSS scheme would cover students from class IX to XII and consist of allowances like escort and transport components and also cover infrastructure development and setting up model schools.
He also said that in order to implement the scheme, the exact number of disabled students at the secondary stage was urgently required and the target group once identified can have access to components of the different provisions.
Further deputy project director SSA Kohima, Tali Jamir said in order to implement the IEDSS scheme, survey and identification of children with special needs from class IX-XII was urgently required and also explained about how to identify different categories of disabled children in the school with the help of checklist.
He also distributed survey forms to all heads of government and private high schools and higher secondary schools and requested them to submit the forms to DEO Dimapur at the earliest.
Meanwhile, during the inaugural function, Dr. Simon spoke on the accessibility for people with special needs and assistant director Prodigals’ Home Dimapur Maong Jamir gave a presentation on awareness on disability.
Children with special needs of St. Mary’s Montessori School presented a choreography and a special song by Blind School Dimapur.
