Hindu Seva Samiti issues Durga puja guidelines

On the eve of the Durga Puja, the Hindu Seva Samiti (HSS) has issued several guidelines for the proper conduct of puja and maintaining peaceful atmosphere during the festival. A statement issued by Samiti secretary, requested all puja committees to perform puja in true religious spirit and construct pandals in such a way that it did not disturb public road.

The HSS also directed committees to ensure that loud speakers did not disturb the neighbours and to prevent alcohol consumption during the festive period.

It however encouraged playing devotional songs and music with drums, cymbals and conchs in puja pandals. The puja committees have been urged to keep strict vigil on suspected and unclaimed articles lying in and around pandals and report to police if detected. The HSS has informed that on “Vijaya Dashmi” day the procession for immersion would begin at 8 a.m. October 6 from Clock Tower junction, adding only one truck per committee would be allowed.

In order to control the river pollution, the Samiti has requested all committees not to bring any type of waste along with idols, and ensure to bring along any unattended idol lying on the road side. The HSS requested the puja committees to control their members and prevent scuffles.

Meanwhile, the Samiti has urged all the committees to cooperate with district administration, police, DMC and HSS to ensure smooth and joyous conduct of pujas and immersions.
