Nagaland Medical Students Association (NMSA) on Friday appealed to the state government to hold medical examination every year through NPSC with increased number of seats to accommodate the increasing number of medical students who pass out every year.

The association reasoned that currently medical examination through NPSC was held only once every two years with limitation of only 17 or 18 seats; while approximately 50 doctors pass out every year totaling to 100 in two years.

Mentioning this in his presidential speech at the 19th general conference of NMSA, president of the association Dr. Handilo Kath made an appeal to state government for increase in number of seats for government sponsored post graduation medical study in premier medical institutes in the country.

He said currently state sponsored PG seat was only seven confined in the North East. He also suggested that unfilled PG seats during some occasion may be occupied by doctors in open category so that no sponsored seat was wasted. He further appealed to the department not to delay in publishing advertisements for PG entrance examination for state sponsored seats.

While maintaining on the state government’s assurance to start a medical college by 2012, the NMSA expressed optimism that the government would live up to its promises.
