Congress party lashed out at the ruling NPF government on alleged corruption of various Congress-led UPA government flagship programmes in the state.

Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee president S.I. Jamir said this while addressing the NPCC tour of District Congress Committee (DCC) Kohima Friday at Congress Bhavan.

Jamir said the Congress-led UPA at the Centre provided Central Sponsored Scheme (CSS) under 16 Flagships program to the state, but regretted that the developmental funds meant for the people were not reaching them as they were being siphoned off by the NPF government.

He also disclosed that the NPCC’s Vigilance Commission had collected information through RTI Act on various CSSs and which would be made public soon.

Jamir also reaffirmed that if the Congress was voted back to power, it will honestly implement the flagship programmes.
Jamir also admitted that the party had made mistakes in distribution of party tickets for the 2008 assembly election and assured it will not happen again. He called upon party workers to work for the larger interest of the Congress rather than their individual interests.

Reacting to recent press statement by some state Mahila office bearers, Jamir said those who had grievances should bring it to the PCC and AICC Mahila instead of going to the press. Stating that such acts only created misgivings, Jamir opined there were enemies within the party.

Further, he informed that the NPCC tour would wind up on October at 28 at Dimapur, with AICC General Secretary in-charge Nagaland Luizinho Falerio likely to attend the programme.

Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader and MLA Tokheho Yepthomi, in his speech, highlighted the irregularities in departments of Road and Bridges, Police and School Education, to name a few. He said there may be reduced factional killings in the state but that extortions were on the rise with public and consumers being the worst sufferers.

Tokheho also asserted that the Prime Minister of India, Home Minister and other central leaders were sincere in trying to resolve the Naga political issue.

On the upcoming elections in early 2013, he said that the party would short list its candidates by September–October 2012.
NPCC vice president in-charge of DCC Kohima Vaprumu Demo asserted that the NPCC tour of Kohima DCC received positive response from the people.

Stating that Kohima is the nerve centre of Naga politics, Demo appealed to the senior leaders to concentrate on Kohima district.
Congress MLA C. Apok Jamir said there could be difference of opinions but that there was no division within the party adding no one was above it.

NPCC vice president Nillo Rengma urged the party to accord attention and top priority   to the three districts namely– Kohima, Phek and Peren in the coming elections. He said out of 14 MLA in the districts, Congress has only two and winning around 50 % of seats would be crucial for the next government formation in the state.

Earlier in his welcome address PCC Member and former MLA Asu Keyho urged the PCC to take into confidence of DDC Kohima in any decision making. The function was chaired by Prasielie Pienyü, president KDCC.
