The much awaited event of the Kohima-based organization ‘Kyong Naga Cultural Society (KNCS)’ – the 4th edition of ‘Mr. & Miss. Tokhü, Kohima’ was magnificently staged on October 26 at State Academy Hall, Kohima.
The contest, witnessed by a capacity crowd thronging the venue, saw 14 contestant (7 women and 7 men) from Kohima, vying for the coveted title, finally saw Caroline Erüi and Amos Ezung, clinching the title ‘Miss Tokhu, 2011’ and Mr. Tokhu, 2011’ respectively, along with Mhiceni Odyuo and Mhabeni Kikon as the 1st and 2nd runners-up (women), and Chonbemo Ezung & Thungchamo Yanthan as the 1st and 2nd runners-up (men).
The event was graced by A. Zanbemo Ngullie, Jt. Director, Urban Development & secretary, SUDA as the chief guest, who in his speech stress that beauty and talent was a gift from God.
Referring to the Bible, he mentioned that beauty pageant was introduced by King Ahasuerus, who selected Esther as his queen, and further mentioned King Solomon as a handsome man. He also adviced the contestants that the title of Mr & Miss Tokhu should be highly regarded and respected and wished the contestant to exhibit the best of their talents.
Zubemo Kithan, President of KNCS in his welcome and presidential speech, insisted that, Mr & Miss Tokhu Kohima were not just about beauty and glamour, but a contest of talent, knowledge of Lotha traditional customs and practices and eloquence etc.
The event also saw a fashion display by child models who walked the ramp displaying both traditional and modern attire. The event started with an invocation prayer by Y. Abel Yanthan, Cathechist.
The show was choreographed by Yanbeni N. Shitio, ‘Miss Kohima 2009’ and hosted by Lichani Murry and Ajano Khuvung. The costumes were designed by Mhonbeni Khuvung, and make-up for the contestant was done by Mhabeni Shitio. The judges for the contest were Dr. E. Renphamo Lotha, Jerry Patton and Dr. Chumbeno Ngullie.
KNCS has expressed gratitude to all the sponsors, volunteers, organization and individuals who supported them in making the event a successful one. It further conveyed that, their support and contribution will go down the anal of the history of KNCS.
