Semester system in colleges by 2012 end: Shurho

With the Human resource development (HRD) ministry and University grants commission (UGC) toying with the idea of encouraging universities across the country to adopt the semester system, Minister for higher and technical education & urban development, Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu Friday said the department was planning to introduce semester system in all the colleges in Nagaland by the end of next academic year 2012. 

Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu said this while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural programme of Mount Tiyi College, Wokha new building. With regard to building the future of younger generation, the chief guest said his department has been concentrating on quality education by laying emphasis on national assessment and accredited council to bring about transformation in the educational system and added that unless students and teachers worked hard, quality education cannot be ensured.

While stressing that quality of education was measured by the quality of students produced by an institute, Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu also urged the college faculty to work with sincerity and the students to develop and learn work culture.

He disclosed that the education department’s vision to make education available at one’s doorstep have led to launching of many colleges in the state, where at present there are 14 government colleges, 38 private colleges and 24 theological colleges in the state.

He also appealed to the Lotha community and the public leaders to extend co-operation and support to the area representative Dr. Chumben Murry in acquiring land as early as possible for construction of main campus for Open Global University.

Also speaking at the occasion, guest of honour minister for agriculture Dr. Chumben Murry called upon the students to consider their institution as a centre of excellence and a ground to refine their knowledge.

The function was chaired by Chubainla Jamir, director higher education while vote of thanks was given by Chubatola Longkumer principal Mt. Tiyi College and dedicatory prayer by Rev. Dr. Nrio Ezung, KBES Vankhosung.
