Kyong Students Uion (KSU) Monday warned the Cabinet sub-committee on petroleum and natural gas (CSC-PNG) that it would initiate its own course of action if it failed to frame the modalities for oil extraction at Changpang oil field on or before March 29.
In a statement, KSU president Subenthung Kithan and general secretary Amos Odyuo said that the union had submitted an ultimatum to the convenor, CSC-PNG for framing of modalities for oil extraction in Changpang oil field and consultation on the draft modalities on exploration and mining of petroleum in Nagaland within 1 (one) month from the date of submission of “ultimatum” on February 29 and subsequent publication in our local media on March 4.
The statement said that till date KSU did not received any response or assurance from CSC-PNG. KSU stated that 14 (fourteen) months has passed since the assurance given by the CSC-PNG convenor T.R. Zeliang for finalising the draft modalities within 3 (three) months on January 8, 2012 at Changpang. It said the delay was an attempt to “thwart the wishes of the people and denial of the rights to development and livelihood”.
