Kyong Students’ Union (KSU) Thursday decided to wait for another 45 days “in good faith” before initiating its own course of action over the framing of modalities for extracting oil from Changpang oil field. The KSU decision followed the request through a letter received from the Cabinet sub-committee on petroleum and natural gas (CSC-PNG) on March 28.

Earlier, KSU had warned CSC-PNG that it would initiate its own course of action if it failed to frame the modalities for oil extraction at Changpang oil field on or before March 29. In a statement, KSU president Subenthung Kithan and vice-president Amos Humtsoe said that the union has learnt that CSC-PNG had interviewed several consultants and had selected Grant Thornton Advisory Pvt. Ltd for Techno-Economic consultancy as they found it had the most experience and global presence.

KSU said that it would wait for 45 days and if the cabinet sub-committee failed to frame the modalities then the union would not remain silent spectators but would take its own course of action, for which the cabinet sub-committee would be solely held responsible.
